  • How to filter contacts by what they bought

The contact filter has Product and Offer conditions (in the Payment group): they find the contacts who bought — or did not buy — what you select. Everything in the order counts: the main checkout offer and any items added as an order bump. You don't need to know how the person bought it; if the item was in the order, it counts as a purchase.

    Before you start

    • A workspace role with CRM access and permission to view contacts.
    • Purchases are linked to the contact by the email used at checkout. If the person bought with a different email than the one on the contact, the filter won't find them.

    Filter by product or offer

    1. Open Contacts and click Filter.
    2. Click Add condition and pick Product or Offer in the Payment group.
      • Product finds any purchase of the product, through any of its offers.
      • Offer narrows it down to one specific offer (useful when the same product has more than one price or condition).
    3. Pick the operator:
      • is in — the contact bought at least one of the selected items.
      • is not in — the contact never bought any of the selected items, not even as an order bump.
    4. Select one or more products/offers and apply.

You can save the result as a segment to use in broadcasts, mass automations, and pipeline imports.

Recipe: bought A, but not B

To find people who bought one item and haven't bought another yet (the classic audience for a complementary offer):

    1. In the first condition group, add Product (or Offer) is in → item A.
    2. Connect a second group with and, then add Product (or Offer) is not in → item B.

Anyone who bought B in any way — as a main offer or as an order bump in another product's checkout — is excluded, so the audience never gets an offer for something they already own.

Conditions in the same group apply to the same purchase

When you combine Product/Offer with Transaction status in the same group, every rule must be satisfied by the same purchase. "Product is in A" + "Transaction status is paid" finds people with one paid order containing A — a contact with a paid order for another product plus a pending order for A does not match.

The other purchase conditions in the Payment group — Offer type, Product name, and Currency — follow the same rule as this guide: they evaluate every item in the order, including items bought as an order bump.

    Having trouble?

    • A buyer doesn't show up in the filter → check that the checkout email matches the contact's email; the link is made by email.
    • I want to separate order bump buyers from main offer buyers → the filter doesn't make that distinction: a purchase is a purchase, regardless of where the item sat in the checkout. If you need that separation, use a dedicated Offer for the order bump and filter by it.
