How do I keep a Max connection to myself?
In the New connection assistant, open the Sharing step and choose Private. Only you then use that connection in your chats with Max; other workspace members don't even see it in the list. With Workspace, everyone in the workspace uses the connection with Max.
Before you start:
- Role: you need the Chaves de API e MCP (API keys and MCP) permission to open Connections. Workspace owners and admins already have it.
- Choose Private when the connection signs in with a personal account (your email, your calendar): actions run with the account you connected.
Choose when you create the connection
- In the Max menu, open Connections.
- Pick the connector and click Add connection. For your own server, use + and MCP server.
- In the Sharing step, select Private or Workspace. If you leave it untouched, it stays Workspace.
- Click Connect and finish signing in if the tool asks.
Everyone with their own account
Several people in the workspace can connect the same catalog connector, such as Google Workspace, each with their own account, as long as they all choose Private. In each person's Max, the connector uses the account they connected: their own Gmail and calendar, never someone else's. Each person has at most one private connection per connector.
A catalog connector works one way or the other, never both at once:
- One Workspace connection that everyone uses. While it exists, nobody can connect the same connector as Private.
- Private connections, one per person. While any exists, the Workspace option is unavailable for that connector.
Change it later if you need to
- In Connections, open the connector.
- Under Your connection, click Make private or Share with the workspace.
Only the person who created the connection sees this button and can change the sharing. A catalog connection only becomes Workspace if nobody else has connected the same connector privately.
Who can do what with a private connection
- Creator: uses it in Max, disables, disconnects, reconnects and changes the sharing.
- Workspace owner and admins: see the connection in Connections, labeled Private to and the creator's name (for a catalog connector, under Other people’s private connections), and can disable or disconnect it. They don't use it in their own chats, can't reconnect it and can't change the sharing.
- Other workspace members: neither see nor use the connection.
Connections created before this option existed stay Workspace.
If you see a message
- Outras pessoas do workspace já conectaram este conector como privado. Conecte como privado para usar a sua conta. (Other people in the workspace already connected this connector privately. Connect it as private to use your own account.) You tried to connect or share as Workspace a connector others already use with their own accounts. Connect yours as Private.
- Este conector já está conectado e compartilhado com o workspace. (This connector is already connected and shared with the workspace.) You already use that connection in Max. To use your own account, ask its creator to make it private or disconnect it.
- Você já conectou este conector. (You already connected this connector.) Each person has one private connection per connector. To switch accounts, use Reconnect on your connection.
- Só quem criou esta conexão privada pode reconectá-la. (Only the creator of this private connection can reconnect it.) Reconnecting signs in with whoever clicks. Ask the creator to reconnect.
