How do I ask Max to adjust my automation?
Open the automation and ask Max for the change, the way you would ask a teammate. Max applies the whole change at once, with the same connection rules as the canvas, and you see the result appear on screen while you keep editing.
Before you start:
- Role: Owner, Administrator, or Editor.
- The automation must be Draft or Paused. If it is Active, Max asks whether it can pause it before making changes.
1. Open the automation with Max beside it
Open the automation in the editor and open Max. Max sits on the left and the canvas on the right, without covering the blocks.
Max already knows which automation is open and what each block does. If you select a block before asking, Max reads "this step" as the selected block.
2. Ask for the change
Describe what to change. Some examples:
- "Add a 1-day wait before the WhatsApp message."
- "Swap the order of the welcome email and the tag."
- "Remove the SMS step."
- "After the WhatsApp question, if the person doesn't reply within 1 hour, send an email."
A new step lands connected where you asked: whatever came after that point still comes after it. When a step is removed, the previous step now points to the next one, so the path doesn't break. If you want the path to end there, say so in your request.
3. Follow along on the canvas
Changes show up on the canvas while Max works. You can keep dragging and editing blocks at the same time: a position you moved is not undone by Max's change.
Max only reports the change as done when no step is left loose (with no connection coming from another step) and the start of the automation is connected to the first step. If something was left loose, Max fixes it before replying.

If it didn't work
- Max said it can't edit: check whether the automation is Active or scheduled. Pause it and ask again.
- The new step showed up in the wrong place: ask Max to move it, naming the blocks before and after it.
- A contact stopped moving forward after a step was removed from a paused automation: the run that was on that step was canceled. Check the Runs tab.
