  • How to change a project icon

The icon is the image that identifies a project in the sidebar, in the project switcher and in the Projects list. You change it in the project's own settings, and it replaces the old image as soon as the upload finishes.

    Before you start

    • Role: editing a project requires Owner or Admin. See Roles and permissions.
    • File: use JPG, PNG, GIF, WEBP or AVIF.

    Steps

    1. Open Projects.
    2. On the project's row, click Configure.
    3. Under Project icon, click Upload the project icon — or drag the file onto that area.
    4. Pick the image. The upload starts on its own, with no confirm button.
    5. Wait for the Upload complete. message. The preview next to the button already shows the new icon.

The icon only changes once the upload finishes. If you close the tab halfway, lose connection, or the upload fails, the project keeps the previous image — nothing ends up broken.

    Accepted formats

    FormatAccepted
    JPG / JPEGyes
    PNGyes
    GIFyes
    WEBPyes
    AVIFyes
    SVGno
    HEIC / HEIFno

If you send a file outside that list, you get Couldn't upload the image and the icon stays as it was.

    If it didn't work

    • You see "Couldn't upload the image": the file is not an image in one of the accepted formats. Convert it to PNG or JPG and try again. Photos taken on an iPhone usually come as HEIC — export as JPG first.
    • The Projects list still shows the old image: reload the page. If it lasts more than a few minutes, upload the image again.
    • The project shows a grey square: it has no icon yet. Projects created at the end of the onboarding questionnaire start without one — follow the steps above to set it.
