How do I edit the sender, subject, and header of an email in an automation?
The Send email step card, in the automation canvas, shows three editable fields right there: Send from:, Subject:, and Header:. You don't need to open the email edit screen just to adjust these three — click each field on the card and type or pick a value.
Role: any member with edit access to the workspace.
Before you start: a Send email step in the automation and a configured email sender — see email domain.
Edit from the card
- Find the Send email step in the automation canvas.
- In the Send from: field, click and pick one of the senders connected to the workspace.
- In the Subject: field, click and type the email's subject.
- In the Header: field, click and type the text that shows as the preview in the recipient's inbox.
The same three fields also appear inside the Send email screen (opened by clicking the email preview, further down the card) — it's the same setting in both places: what you type in one shows up immediately in the other.
Inside the Send email screen, once you've filled in Send from: and Subject, a collapse button appears below the fields — click it to hide them and get more room for the visual editor. If you click that button before filling in the two required fields, it doesn't collapse: instead, it automatically focuses whichever field is still missing.

If it did not work
- The Send from: field is empty and lists no senders: no email sender is configured in the workspace yet. See email domain.
- Activating the automation shows an incomplete channel step warning: the Send email step was created without a sender (by Max, for example). Open the step, pick a sender in the Send from: field, and activate again. See error codes.
