How do I upload files and organize folders in the Drive?
Open the folder where the file should live and click Upload files — or drag the files from your computer into the folder. To organize, create subfolders with New folder and move items from each row’s More actions menu.
Before you start
- Editor or Owner role in the folder’s space. Viewers and Commenters see the folder but have no Upload files button. See What is the workspace Drive?.
- In My drive you are always the Owner.
- The Platform folder is read-only, except for Page assets (whoever edits pages) and Email images (whoever edits broadcasts, automations or message templates): there you upload, create subfolders and move inside the same library.
Upload files
- In the Drive menu, open the space and the destination folder (or My drive).
- Click Upload files and pick the files on your computer — or drag them into the folder area.
- Follow the Uploading {n} files panel in the corner of the screen. Each file shows Queued, Uploading, Done or Upload failed · try again.
- If an upload fails, click it to retry. Cancel uploads stops what has not finished yet; whatever is already Done stays in the folder.
You can navigate to another folder while uploads continue — the panel follows you. Minimize collapses the panel without stopping anything.
You can upload any image, video, audio, document, spreadsheet, text or font file, and also HTML pages (.html). SVG and scripts (.js) are not accepted.
In a space connected to Google Drive, every folder created in Clickmax is also created in the space's Google Drive folder, and uploaded files go into it. Folders created before this sync show up there on the first upload into them.
Bring in what changed directly in Google Drive
If someone created, renamed, moved or deleted files directly in Google Drive, click Sync at the top of the space (or any folder in it) so Clickmax shows the same. The button only appears in spaces connected to Google Drive and for people who can edit the space.
- Files and folders created in Google Drive start showing in Clickmax with a lock and the label Created in Google Drive: read-only here. You can open, download and share them, but renaming, moving, deleting and uploading into those folders only works in Google Drive. Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drawings download as
.docx,.xlsx,.pptxand.pdf; forms, sites and shortcuts are left out. - Items renamed or moved in Google Drive get the same name and folder in Clickmax.
- Files deleted, sent to the Google trash or taken out of the space's folder stay in the list as Unavailable. If they come back to the folder, the next sync shows them again.
When it finishes, a notice sums up what changed (new, updated, back and unavailable). Very large folders are only partly synced: the notice says when that happens, and in that case nothing is marked unavailable.
If the quota is full, the upload is refused with Storage full: free up space or manage your plan. When you try, {size} more needed for this upload to fit tells you how much to free. Emptying the trash is the fastest way — deleted items keep counting toward the quota until they are permanently deleted.
Create and organize folders
- Inside the space or folder, click New folder (in an empty folder the button reads New subfolder).
- Name it and confirm. The new folder inherits the access of the folder it was created in — whoever already saw the parent sees the new one.
- To move an item, open More actions on its row and choose the destination folder. Moving between spaces changes who has access: the item now follows the roles of the new space.
- To rename, download or see who has access, use the same More actions menu or the Details panel.
An empty folder shows This folder is empty with the hint Drag files here or upload from your computer — the message already says who else will see the contents, because access belongs to the folder, not the file.
View a file without downloading
Click a file to open the preview. You can view without downloading:
- Images, videos (including
.movrecordings), audio and PDF. - Spreadsheets:
.csv,.tsvand Excel.xlsxshow as a table, with the sheet tabs at the bottom. Very long files show the first 1,000 rows. - Word documents (
.docx), read-only. - HTML: switch between Page, which shows the working page in isolation, and Code.
- Text and code (
.txt,.md,.json,.css…), with syntax highlighting. - Zip (
.zip): shows the folders and files inside, with each one's size. Click a file in the list to preview it, or use Download file to download just that one.
Files in spaces connected to Google Drive also open here, without asking for a Google login. Legacy formats (.xls, .doc), .rar/.7z and files that are too large show the Download button.
Extract a zip in the Drive
To unzip a .zip without downloading it, open More actions on its row (or the preview) and click Extract here. A new folder is created next to the zip and the files are uploaded into it, keeping the subfolders — progress shows in the same upload panel.
- The folder is named after the zip. If everything in the zip is already inside a single folder, that folder becomes the new one (no repeated level).
- System files (
__MACOSX,.DS_Store) are left out. - Extracted files count toward the quota like any upload, and the original zip stays where it is.
- The option only shows for people who can upload to that folder. Password-protected zips, zips with more than 5,000 files or too large to open in the browser (over 200 MB) are not extracted: download them and upload the folders.
Find a file later
- Search the whole drive (at the top) searches by name across every space you can access; the Type, Space, Person and Modified filters (default: Last 90 days) narrow the result.
- Recent lists what you opened or changed last; Favorites, what you starred from the More actions menu.
