  • How do I show an image or a video before the webinar starts?

Use the Opening step, in the Appearance group of the webinar's menu. Until the session starts, the player shows your image or video instead of the default background, and the countdown appears in a badge in the corner. The video plays muted and on loop, on its own, until the session starts.

Role: any member with access to the workspace.

    Set up the opening

    1. Open the webinar, go to Settings and click the Opening step (Appearance group).
    2. Choose Image or Video.
    3. Click Upload image or Upload video and pick the file:
      • Image: PNG, JPG or WebP up to 5 MB.
      • Video: MP4 or WebM up to 50 MB.
    4. Check the thumbnail next to the button and click Save changes.

To go back to the default background, choose Default (or click Remove) and save.

To check how it looks, use the preview next to the form and click Before it starts (the preview countdown is illustrative).

    When the opening shows

    • Before the session time, together with the Starts in countdown.
    • In Just in time, before the person signs up.

When the session starts, the room swaps the opening for the webinar video.

If the Waiting room with countdown option is off in the Webinar module settings, the badge shows Starting soon, without the countdown.

    Good to know

    • The opening video has no sound. Browsers only let a video play on its own when it is muted. Use a video that works without audio, like a vignette or a captioned clip.
    • Prefer short videos. It restarts when it ends, so a loop of a few seconds looks more natural.
    • The image and the video fill the whole player. Use a 16:9 ratio so the edges aren't cropped.

    If something goes wrong

    • "Use a PNG, JPG or WebP image up to 5 MB" or "Use an MP4 or WebM video up to 50 MB": the file is in another format or too large. Convert or shrink it and upload again.
    • The room still shows the default background: check that you clicked Save changes after uploading the file.
