  • How do I add a webchat to the funnel?

Add the Webchat step on the canvas and choose how to start: create a webchat from scratch, which is born active, full screen and in the funnel's project, or connect one you already have, filtered by project. A contact who reaches this step opens the conversation full screen, through the webchat link.

Role: any user with access to the funnel in the workspace can edit it. See permissions.

Before you start: the funnel must be open in the builder.

    Steps

    1. Open the funnel in the builder.
    2. Right-click an empty spot on the canvas (or use the + in the toolbar) and pick Webchat. If you dragged a connection from a step trigger, the step is created already connected.
    3. In How do you want to start?, pick an option. From a template and With AI are marked as coming soon and don't open anything yet.
      • From scratch: in Name your webchat, type the name and click Create. The webchat is born Active, full screen and in the funnel's project, and the step appears on the canvas. To build the conversation, use Edit webchat on the card.
      • Connect an existing one: in Choose a webchat, click the webchat. The list starts at Webchats in this project; switch to All webchats to see other projects. Each item shows the status (Active or Paused), the number of steps and of conversations. A Paused webchat becomes Active when chosen, so its link responds. Webchats already used in another step of this funnel show Already linked to another node.
    4. The step card shows the webchat, its status and link. The card menu has Change webchat, Edit webchat, Customize link, Copy link, QR Code and Remove. When you finish editing the webchat, the editor's back button takes you back to the funnel.

If you close the window without choosing, no step is created.

Send the contact to the next step

In Send to next step when..., on the card, the step already comes with the Webchat completed trigger. Use Add trigger to add the others (each one once per card) and drag the trigger's dot to the next step.

    • Webchat completed: when the conversation with the bot reaches the end (End step or the flow's last step). Asking for an agent doesn't count as completion.
    • Contact captured: when the contact leaves a name or email in the conversation. The contact is linked to this funnel.
    • Asked for an agent: when the conversation goes to the team's queue. If this trigger isn't connected, the conversation just continues with the team.

Click the trigger row to choose what happens in When triggered:

    • Redirect automatically (default): the chat shows a short redirect notice and takes the contact to the next step right away.
    • Show Continue button: a button appears at the end of the conversation and the contact decides when to move on.

Triggers work on the fullscreen webchat page (the card's link) and on the fullscreen webchat embedded on your site. In the floating bubble they don't redirect. If more than one trigger fires in the same conversation, the first destination wins.

To start an automation, connect Contact captured to an automation step: it runs for contacts captured in this webchat. Webchat completed and Asked for an agent only send the contact to another step.

Contacts who already filled in a page

When a contact reaches the webchat from a funnel page that already captured their name, email or phone, the webchat doesn't ask again:

    • A capture step that only asks for data the contact already gave is skipped, and the Contact captured trigger fires right away.
    • If a required field is missing, the capture step shows up with what's already known filled in.
    • Even without a capture step, the conversation goes to the contact with that email instead of a new "Visitor" contact.

A conversation is only linked to a contact who didn't have a webchat conversation yet. If the email belongs to a contact with another conversation, the webchat creates a new contact so nobody sees someone else's conversation.

    See the webchat numbers

In the funnel's analytics mode, the webchat card shows Views, Completed, Completion rate, Contacts captured and Asked for an agent, counting people who came through the funnel. Each trigger connection shows how many times it fired, and webchat opens count toward funnel visits.

In the card menu, click Customize link:

    1. In Clickmax link, type the end of the link (for example my-support). Empty = uses the webchat code.
    2. (Optional) In Custom domain, search for and pick a connected domain and fill in Path on the domain. Empty = same as the Clickmax link.
    3. Check the Webchat link preview and click Save.

Use only letters, numbers, - and _. The address belongs to the channel, so it changes in every funnel that uses it and in the webchat editor; published funnels pick up the new address the next time they're published. Links shared with the old name stop working, but the link with the webchat code always works. If you see This link is already in use. Choose another one. or This path is already in use on this domain., choose another name.

To change the step's webchat, use Change webchat in the card menu: it opens the same How do you want to start? window.
