My message failed in the chat. How do I find out why?
When a message is not delivered, a red icon appears next to its timestamp. Hover over that icon: the tooltip shows the cause of the failure, what to do, and the code WhatsApp returned.
- Open the conversation and find the message with the red icon.
- Hover over the icon and read the first line — that is the cause.
- The second line, when present, is the recommended action. Follow it before resending.
- If the message mentions the number's connection, also check the notification bell at the top of the chat: it lists the active problems on your WhatsApp account under Issue detected with your WhatsApp account.
Two similar failures, different actions
WhatsApp uses the same code for different causes, so the difference is in the wording:
Until the second case is resolved, no message from that number is delivered, neither in the chat nor in automations.

If it did not work
- The tooltip asks you to reconnect, but the number looks connected: the setup on Meta may be incomplete — check the pending items in the notification bell and finish connecting WhatsApp.
- The failure is on a template, not a chat message: see templates with "Send failed".
