  • English
  • Why does the link I send in the support chat reach the contact looking different?

Every link you paste into a support chat message reaches the contact as a Clickmax short link. It opens exactly the same destination, but goes through Clickmax first, which recognizes which contact clicked. A link pasted as-is does not tell you who clicked — the click arrives unidentified, from the in-app browser of WhatsApp or Instagram.

It works on WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram and email. You don't need to do anything: the swap happens on its own, when the message is sent.

What you see and what the contact sees

    • In the support chat, the message keeps showing the link exactly as you wrote it.
    • The contact receives the short link instead of the original. The rest of the text arrives unchanged, including the punctuation around the link.
    • In email, the short link appears in both the formatted version and the plain-text version.
    • A message without a link arrives exactly as you wrote it.

What happens when the contact clicks

The contact lands on the same destination as the original link. From that click on, their visits to your pages are tied to the contact instead of showing up as an anonymous visitor. See How do I export my visitors' visits as CSV?.

In these cases the link is not swapped — the message is delivered normally, with the original link:

    • The link starts with http:// instead of https://.
    • The link is already a Clickmax short link.
    • The address cannot become a short link (for example, a destination blocked for security).
    • The message is an audio, image, video or file — only the text of messages has its links swapped.
    • Email addresses and phone numbers are never swapped.
