How do I win back contacts who have gone quiet?
A dormant base costs you: it drags down the delivery rate of the sends that matter. A re-engagement campaign works on two fronts — it recovers the people who are still interested and identifies the ones who can go.
Before you start
- Role: Owner, Admin or Editor.
- Define what "inactive" means for your business. With repeat purchases, 60 days is already a long time; with a high-ticket product, six months may be perfectly normal.
1. Build the inactive segment
Create a segment using the criterion you defined. Use a segment, not a list: anyone who starts engaging again drops out of the group automatically.
Exclude recent buyers from the segment — a happy, quiet customer is not an inactive contact.
2. Give them a reason to come back
Re-engagement is not "we miss you". The person needs something concrete: new content, a change to the product, a specific offer.
3. Start with the safest channel
Use email first. Blasting WhatsApp at an inactive base is the fastest route to mass blocks and a restricted number — see safe bulk sending.
4. Ramp up and watch
Send in slices. In an automation, the Dispatch pace in the Run window does this for you — set few contacts per cycle and an interval between cycles, as in control the pace of a mass send. If unsubscribes and blocks spike on the first slice, stop (cancel the run — what has not gone out does not go out): it means the base is colder than you thought, and pushing on damages your reputation for future sends.
5. Ask before you delete
One last email asking whether the person still wants to hear from you settles it cleanly: whoever replies or clicks stays, whoever ignores it goes.
6. Clear out whoever didn't come back
Once the campaign is over, remove the contacts who never engaged — see clean up your database. A smaller, live base delivers better than a big, dead one.

If it didn't work
- Almost nobody replied: that is the expected result on a very old base — move on to the clean-up.
- Deliverability dropped during the campaign: stop the remaining slices and reduce the volume.
- The segment picked up active customers: review the criterion and exclude recent purchases.
